Senate candidate sponsors slogan contest, then drops out

Dan McQueen, a former Texas mayor turned Senate candidate, was (and possibly still is) hosting a slogan contest in an attempt to raise money for "Texas Breaks Addiction."  At stake in the contest: McQueen's 1980 Corvette.

The prize may sound impressive, but there are many red flags with this contest:

• There is a $100 entry fee.
• McQueen recently sponsored an essay contest and put a 12,000-square-foot property up as the prize.  It's not clear whether or not that contest has been canceled.
• No description of the car is given, other than the year and model.  McQueen even uses a stand-in picture for the car online.
• All rights to any slogans entered in this contest are given up by the slogan writer.
• McQueen resigned as mayor after less than 40 days in office, and has now dropped out of the Senate race.  His website, McQueenForSenate.com, appears to be down (although interestingly, the slogan contest flyer is still live).

All signs point to this contest being scrubbed, but on the off chance that it's still going, it seems to be one to avoid.  The postmark deadline is listed as January 31st, 2018, and it will be interesting to see if the contest is officially canceled before then.
